The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said it has embarked on massive grid expansion and rehabilitation projects in order to boost the national grid for better electricity transmission across the country.
The Managing Director of TCN, Mr Usman Gur Mohammed, who stated this at a press briefing in Abuja, said 27 transformers have already been installed to raise its electricity wheeling capacity by 2,148 megawatts (MW) in the last one year.
According to a document made available to newsmen by the TCN management, 27 transformers were installed across the 11 electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos). According to the breakdown, TCN installed the highest transformer capacity of 728MW in the network of Kaduna Electric comprising four transmission transformers.
The TCN head who revealed plans to acquire a Supervisory and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor the entire national electricity grid said the SCADA on the grid will ensure transparency to see the defaulters that include DisCos who do not take generated power or GenCos that do not generate enough power and other cases in contrast with the Grid Code.
